How to Tell If Your Child is Being Bullied

How to Tell If Your Child is Being Bullied

It’s a parent’s worst nightmare. Bullying in school is slowly becoming a common occurrence in India thanks to Western influence. Also, society is changing rapidly to become more competitive and less empathetic making children vindictive and cruel.

There is a zero-tolerance policy towards bullying in the various CBSE affiliated schools of India. Delhi Public School, Barasat is no different. We would appreciate it if parents came to us directly with their concerns of bullying, so that we can address the issue then and there, and nip the problem in the bud and not let the consequences linger.

4 ways to tell if your child is being bullied at school

  • Change in friendships

This is a sign that’s very common among girls. If your daughter changes her friend circle, chances are she was being bullied in her old friend circle. Girls tend to gang up with each other and pick on one particular young lady. If you notice that your child refuses to hang out with some particular kids, it’s time to suspect bullying.
  • Marks on the body

CBSE-affiliated schools impress upon parents the need to check their child’s arms, neck, and abdomen. Bullying takes various forms and one form it takes is physical. Boys, especially, tend to bully each other physically by beating, kicking, punching, etc.
  • New kids are more likely to be bullied

Monitor your child especially if he or she is the new kid at school. Children tend to gang up on the new kid, causing a lot of emotional damage. While CBSE-affiliated schools do not tolerate this in any way, as parents, be vigilant and speak out about the problem.
  • Withdrawal from life

One of the most potent signs of bullying is withdrawal from normal everyday activities. Children who were happy-go-lucky and very extroverted may suddenly turn introverted and withdraw from activities they previously liked.

Conclusion

Bullying is a serious offense. We, at Delhi Public School, Barasat, take very seriously cases of bullying as most CBSE-affiliated schools. Parents and children are encouraged to come to us with cases of bullying. So, don’t be afraid! Speak up!
