Impact of COVID-19 on Students

COVID-19 has impacted the world and not just students in a tremendous way. The world witnessed something that was tragic as millions lost their lives to the deadly COVID-19 virus.

Keeping aside the humanitarian crisis, schools rallied to bring some sense of normalcy and  discipline to the lives of children. CBSE schools in West Bengal too did their very best to help children participate in their day-to-day education.

However, the impact of COVID-19 has left some deep scars on children which we hope time can heal. In India, many children lost their parents and close relatives. This , obviously, has put a strain on their mental health.

Moreover, with no face-to-face contact with their friends from school, their support system was broken. Now, with the BF.7 strain looming over the horizon, we wonder if our children will have to face another period of lockdown.

How has COVID-19 affected students of CBSE schools in West Bengal?

The impact has been indelible. However, for the most part, children have been able to bounce back from the situation. Yet, there exist plenty of problems that teachers have noticed in the kids once schools have reopened. Here, we discuss some of the issues.
  • Poor Communication in English

Staying at home and constantly speaking in the vernacular has made the children poor in communicative English. In schools, children usually were forced to interact and learn in English alone. Teachers insist that communication should be carried out in English so that children learn to pronounce words and gain confidence from the interaction.

  • Lack of Proper Social Skills

CBSE schools in West Bengal have noticed a lack of proper social skills. After meeting virtually for over 2 years, children do not know how to communicate face-to-face. Also, most kids are taking time to open up to one another. It’s going to take a long time, but if your child is refusing to socialize, you may think about seeing a counselor.
  • Poor Growth

Due to the lack of exercise and play, children haven’t grown much in the 2 years they were there at home during the pandemic. Also, their eyesight has been seriously affected because of the long hours spent watching the screen.

Conclusion

In an ever-changing world, it is very important to prepare a child for the unforeseen. While the universe offers some structure, there are plenty of things that we cannot control. Children need to understand that if they are going to cope as adults. As one of the CBSE schools in West Bengal that prepares children to face the future with courage and fortitude, DPS BARASAT does not shy away from discussing important issues, and makes sure that students are always aware, agile and motivated to face every adversity and make the most out of every opportunity that come their way.
