The future belongs to the curious, the ones who are not afraid to try, explore and question. Activities appeal to the child’s innate inquisitiveness. Children learn better when they have fun and feel involved. Fun - filled, hands on and interactive activities form an integral part of the teaching learning procedure at DPS Barasat. Languages are taught through phonetic sounds and foundation of number concepts is laid by giving opportunity of learning with pragmatic approach and proceeding from concrete to abstract. We aim at stimulating learning through the play way method and to encourage the students to discover the world around them by adopting and integrated approach. This learning involves planning of learning experiences as a whole and in meaningful contexts. To stimulate learning we will have a special play area which is a well equipped room where students are led to discover the world around them based on the themes through fantasy or imaginative play. Multimedia and audio visual aids further facilitate their learning and the fivefold development i.e. Physical development, Social development, Emotional development, Mental development and Spiritual development.
The Primary school recognises the link between development and learning. Inquiry based curriculum focuses on the child as a learner. To make students self reliant and independent individual’s learning takes place through project method and co operative learning. To discourage rote learning, the students through various study skills. Language Activities (LAC), Mathematic Activities (MAC), Science Activity Rooms, Exploration Lab provide the students an opportunity to explore and discover. Assignments, quizzes, competitions, debates, elocution, group discussions, club activities, experiments, research, etc are the various techniques used to necessitate holistic development of the child. Here, the learning objectives will be successfully combined with our philosophy of focusing on our students and their learning needs. We will be uniquely open to flexibility of our courses and upgrade with all changes in the field of education.
We have regularly instituted reforms in evaluation patterns and examination. The prime focus of our curriculum is to innovate teaching - learning methodologies by developing paradigms that are conducive for students. We therefore emphasise on: • Easy and stress free assessment tools that value our students’ creativity and help teachers assess their cognitive skills. • Integrating skill learning by adding life skill oriented, value based inputs in our curriculum. The delivery of lessons from the primary level to the secondary level is based on : (i) Integrated Curriculum, (ii) Interdisciplinary Approach, (iii) Experiential Learning, (iv) Research Work and, (v) Professional Talk Our students are encouraged to explore the relationship between practical and theoretical concepts of various subjects, thus learning to analyse how the topic extends beyond the classroom and into the outside world. The boundaries of subjects are dissolved and students learn across the curriculum. Subjects are not taught in isolation as in the conservative methods thus cultivating higher order thinking abilities, encouraging our young minds to focus on their critical thinking and problem solving skills. We have developed upon a structured Language Programme, regular practice work, result analysis at all levels of evaluation and remediation to address all academic needs.
At DPS, Barasat, we have created a health-oriented school climate and built an appropriate ambience, sensitive to the health needs of school-going children and that helps promote their well being.
Our health screening and awareness programmes are conducted thrice a year by a team of doctors, ophthalmologists and para medical staff. Students are checked for good vision, dental health, good cardio-vascular parameters and are encouraged to maintain good hygiene habits and adequate nutrition. Medical Examination and Acute findings report is given by the doctors. The teachers go through it and cases with acute findings are looked into intricately and conveyed to the parents immediately. We believe investment in the health of children is an investment in the future of the nation.
The school houses a fully equipped infirmary with a qualified nurse, two beds, best-in-class medical facilities to meet any immediate exigencies & first aid.
Digi Class brings a world of discovery into the classroom. It is based on Cognitive Learning Approach whereby the traditional blackboard and chalk classroom experiences are transformed into interactive sessions with audio-visual aids. Complex concepts seem simple to comprehend and visual representation further enhances the learning experience.
We believe that experiential learning, through participation in co-scholastic activities, helps the students to develop their personality and prepare them to meet the challenges of living in an increasingly competitive world.

To and fro transportation for students, teachers and staff members is an important aspect of every school. Hence, DPS, Barasat has appointed ‘Urban Paribahan Services Pvt. Ltd.’ as the transportation service provider. Urban services run buses covering Barasat and several important areas of Kolkata. The areas covered is need based and extended accordingly. The buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, lady escort and a helper. Urban Services shall be offering transportation services independently and DPS, Barasat shall be in no way responsible or liable for any consequences arising out of it.
